A long long time ago…
I vividly remember my preschool days, where, unlike the other children, I couldn’t manage to nap during quiet time. Instead of disturbing the class, I was given a special privilege—to explore the classroom computer. It was an IBM XT 286, and I’m convinced those early moments unlocked the path that would shape the rest of my life.
Fast forward about a decade to my middle and early high school years, I found myself diving into early versions of Photoshop, creating logos for my band and experimenting with programming applications using Visual Basic. When Geocities launched, I eagerly built my first HTML website, dedicated to the music I loved at the time. By age 16, I had launched my first business selling motorsports parts, designing its website, and even branding it with vinyl decals and shirts.
When it came time for college, I initially pursued a major in Management Information Systems (MIS) at UMSL. However, I later transitioned to Webster University, where I majored in Advertising and Marketing, minored in Business Management, and earned a Certificate in Web Design and Development.
After graduation, I briefly worked at Ameriwood Industries, a ready-to-assemble furniture company. But in 2006, I took a leap and co-founded Matchbox Design Group with my business partner, Cullen Whitmore—a decision that marked the start of an exciting entrepreneurial journey.
Matchbox has been going strong since and I’m now the father of 2 great kids, have a wonderful wife and enjoy traveling, audio production and seeing live music. It is truly a joy of mine to connect with people over shared or different interests, have meaningful and insightful conversations and to learn, grow and help others.
